竦慄（上相勇反杜注左傳云悚懼也考聲云心不安也驚也毛詩不戁不悚百祿是捴說文從立從束欶也自甲束也恐也下隣吉反郭注爾雅云慄憂戚也孔注尚書危懼也古今正字從心栗聲戁音女簡反）。

Trembling in fear (竦慄: the upper [character has the fanqie] 相勇反. Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: '竦 means terrified (懼).' The Kaosheng says: 'Unease of heart; startled.' The Mao Poetry says: 'Neither fearful nor frightened (竦), all blessings are gathered.' The Shuowen [says it is] composed of 立 and 束, meaning to shrink back; tightening oneself up; afraid. The lower [character has the fanqie] 隣吉反. Guo's commentary on the Erya says: '慄 means anxious and sorrowful.' Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says: 'Fearful and terrified.' In the Gujin zhengzi, it is composed of 心 with 栗 phonetic. 戁 has the sound 女簡反).
