竦慄（上相勇反杜注左傳云悚懼也考聲心不安也說文從立從束言自甲朿也經文從心作悚俗字也下隣吉反郭注爾雅云慄憂戚也尚書云危懼也說文從心栗聲）。

竦慄 [trembling with fear] (The upper character is pronounced with the fanqie 相勇 [sǒng]. Du [Yu]'s commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: “竦 means terrified.” The Kaosheng says: “The mind being uneasy.” The Shuowen jiezi says: “Formed from 立 [stand] and 束 [bind], meaning to brace oneself.” The sūtra text writes it from 心 as 悚, which is a popular character. The lower character is pronounced with the fanqie 隣吉 [lì]. Guo [Pu]'s commentary to the Erya says: “慄 means sorrow and anxiety.” The Book of Documents says: “Perilous fear.” The Shuowen jiezi says: “Formed from 心 [heart] with 栗 as the phonetic element”).
