研覈（上霓堅反說文研磨也從石幵聲或從手作[挈-丰+石]古字也下行革反韻詮考求也聲類窮也說文實也考事得其實也從西𨈡聲幵音[硈-士+又]賢反西音呀賈反）。

To investigate rigorously (研覈: the upper character has the fanqie ní + jiān [yán]; Shuowen jiezi says: 'To grind; derived from 石 "stone" with 幵 phonetic'; it is sometimes written with 扌 "hand" as 揅, which is an ancient character. The lower character has the fanqie xíng + gé [hé]; Yunquan says: 'To examine and seek out'; Shenglei says: 'To exhaustively probe'; Shuowen jiezi says: 'Real; to examine an affair and arrive at its truth; derived from 西 with 𨈡 phonetic'; 幵 is pronounced with the fanqie xiá + xián [jiān]; 西 is pronounced with the fanqie xiā + gǔ [xià]).
