德跨（下誇化反顧野王云跨謂舉足也杜注左傳云跨謂過其上也賈注國語云股也說文云渡也又云以跨步之跨也從足夸聲）。

Virtue striding beyond (德跨: the second character is pronounced with the fanqie 誇 + 化 [kuà]; Gu Yewang says *kua* (跨) refers to lifting the feet; Du Yu's commentary on the *Zuo zhuan* says *kua* means to surpass or go beyond it; Jia Kui's commentary on the *Guoyu* says it means the thighs; the *Shuowen jiezi* says it means to cross over, and also says it is the *kua* in taking strides; it has the semantic radical 足 [foot] and phonetic 夸 [kuā]).
