泛芥舟（上芳劒反中皆邁反漢書云取青紫如俯地拾芬也莊子云覆柸水於坳塘之上則芥謂之舟也今論序引用者言法源深廣妙不可測也已智膚淺修涉難周如剖一葉之芥為舟取濟大壑信其難也字書云菜也從草介聲）。

泛芥舟 (The first character is *fang* + *jian* fanqie; the middle character is *jie* + *mai* fanqie; the *Hanshu* says: "To take high office is like bending to the ground to pick up a small mustard seed." *Zhuangzi* says: "If a cup of water is poured into a depression, then a mustard seed can serve as a boat." Now the preface to the treatise quotes this to say that the source of the Dharma is deep and vast, wondrous and unfathomable; one's own wisdom is shallow and superficial, and practice and wading through are difficult to complete, just like splitting a single mustard leaf to serve as a boat to cross a great chasm—truly difficult indeed. The *Zishu* says: "A vegetable; derived from 草 with 介 phonetic").
