殄滅（上亭典反孔注尚書云殄絕也鄭注周禮病也爾雅說文皆云盡也從歹㐱聲歹音殘㐱音軫經從爾非也下綿結反考聲滅亡也韻詮消也說文盡也從水從戌從火或作[威-女+少]會意字也）。

殄滅: The first character is pronounced 亭 + 典 fanqie. Kong [Anguo]’s commentary on the Shangshu says: “殄 means to extinguish.” Zheng [Xuan]’s commentary on the Zhouli says: “It means distress.” The Erya and Shuowen both say: “It means to exhaust.” It is formed from 歹 with 㐱 as phonetic. 歹 is pronounced like 殘, and 㐱 is pronounced like 軫. In the sūtra text it is written with 爾, which is incorrect. The second character is pronounced 綿 + 結 fanqie. The Kaosheng says: “To perish.” The Yunquan says: “To dissipate.” The Shuowen says: “To exhaust. It is formed from 水, 戌, and 火; sometimes written as [威-女+少]; an ideogram.”
