灘磧（上炭丹反水中沙出曰灘下音戚磧即沙灘之大者兼有石也廣雅磧瀨也又云水乾露沙石曰灘磧並形聲字也）。

Shoals and rocky shallows (灘磧): The first character has the fanqie 炭 (t-) plus 丹 (-an); sand emerging from water is called a 灘. The second character has the pronunciation of 戚; a 磧 is the larger of the sandbars, also containing rocks. The Guangya states that 磧 means shallows (瀨); it also states that sand and rocks exposed when water dries up are called 灘磧. Both are phonetic-ideographic characters.
