一摶(叚鸞反廣雅摶著也顧野王云摶之今相著也說文摶圜也從手專聲案一摶者古人無匕箸手摶而食之今天竺及以諸蕃由存古風手摶而食名一摶食)。

A handful (一摶: [pronounced with] the fanqie ji[ǎ] + [l]uán; the Guangya says: '摶 means to adhere.' Gu Yewang says: 'To knead it so that it sticks together.' The Shuowen says: '摶 means to roll into a ball; it takes shǒu as radical and zhuān as phonetic.' Note: Regarding 'a handful' (一摶), in ancient times people had neither spoons nor chopsticks, but kneaded food into balls with their hands to eat it. Nowadays in India and various barbarian lands they still preserve this ancient custom, balling food by hand to eat it, which is called 'a ball of food' [kavaḍīkārāhāra]).
