塗塗（上音徒考聲塗污也下宅加反訓義與上同點畫偏傍亦不別古今正字從土涂聲涂音徒經文塗字從手作塗俗意非正也）。

Defiled and smeared (塗塗: the first character with the sound of *tu* [tú]. Kaosheng: “*Tu* (塗) means soiled.” The second character with fanqie *zhai-jia* [zhá]; its meaning and explanation are the same as above, and its strokes and components are not distinguished. Gujin zhengzi: “Composed of earth (*tǔ*) with *tú* (涂) as phonetic; *tú* has the sound of *tu* [tú].” In the scripture text, the character *tu* is written with hand (*shǒu*), forming *tú* (塗), which is a popular variant and not orthodox).
