饕餮（上吐刀反下天結反杜注左傳貪財為饕貪食為餮說文並從食號[(餐-食)-又+(珍-王)]皆聲也）。

饕餮 (The *fanqie* for the upper character is [tʰ]- + [tɑu] (吐刀反); the *fanqie* for the lower character is [tʰ]- + [ket̚] (天結反). Du [Yu]'s commentary on the *Zuo zhuan* says: 'Greed for wealth is *tao* (饕); greed for food is *tie* (餮).' The *Shuowen jiezi* states that both are categorized under the radical 食 (food), with 號 and [(餐-食)-又+(珍-王)] respectively as phonetics).
