橃諭（煩襪反考聲縛竹木浮於水上謂之撥也說文從木發聲也廣雅從舟作𦪑皆正也經作筏或有作栰並俗字皆非也下踰注反廣雅諭諫也鄭注周禮告曉之也蒼頡篇諭譬也論語曰君子諭於義小人諭於利說文諭告也從言俞聲也俞字從亼精立反從刂刂音公外反經從口作喻俗字）。

橃諭 (the first character is the fanqie 煩 + 襪 [fá]; the Kaosheng: "Bundling bamboo or wood to float upon water is called a 橃 [raft]." The Shuowen: "From 木 [wood] with 發 providing the sound." The Guangya writes it with the boat radical as 𦪑; both are standard. In sūtras it is written as 筏 or as 栰, which are both popular characters and incorrect. The second character is the fanqie 踰 + 注 [yù]; the Guangya: "諭 means to admonish." Zheng's commentary on the Zhouli: "To instruct and illuminate." The Cang Jie pian: "諭 means to illustrate with an analogy." The Lunyu says: "The noble person understands (諭) righteousness; the petty person understands profit." The Shuowen: "諭 means to inform; from 言 [speech] with 俞 providing the sound." The character 俞 is composed of 亼 (the fanqie 精 + 立 [jí]) and 刂 (pronounced with the fanqie 公 + 外 [kuài]). In the sūtra it is written with the mouth radical as 喻, a popular character).
