煙焰（宴賢反廣疋煙臭也考聲火煙也說文火氣也從火從垔聲也或作燭古文作煙籀文作[宋-木+((栗-木+土)*欠)]下翼念反說文火微行也正體作爓今從省或作𦦨火光也漢書作炎假借也）。

煙焰 [Smoke and flames] (The first character is yan + xian fan. The Guangya says: '煙 means stench.' The Kaosheng says: 'Smoke from fire.' The Shuowen says: 'Vapor of fire.' It is from 火 [fire] with 垔 as phonetic. It is also written as 燭. In ancient script it was written as 煙; in seal script as [宋-木+((栗-木+土)*欠)]. The second character is yi + nian fan. The Shuowen says: 'Fire advancing faintly.' The orthodox form is 爓, now abbreviated. It is also written as 𦦨: flame of fire. The Hanshu writes it as 炎, which is a phonetic loan).
