懷憾（上戶乖反毛詩傳曰懷思也孔氏曰懷安也謚法曰慈仁短折曰懷執義揚善曰懷說文念思也從心褱聲也褱戶乖反古文作㜳或作褢經有作褱協藏也非此義下向噉反孔氏注論語云憾恨也從心感聲也）。

Harbouring resentment (懷憾: the first character is pronounced 戶 + 乖 fanqie; the Mao Commentary on the Classic of Poetry says: '懷 means to cherish/think of'; Master Kong says: '懷 means to comfort/be at peace'; the Rules of Posthumous Titles says: 'Being compassionate and dying young is called 懷; upholding righteousness and promoting goodness is called 懷'; Shuowen says: to think of; to cherish; it takes xin [心] as its classifier and 褱 as its phonetic; 褱 is pronounced 戶 + 乖 fanqie; in ancient script it is written as 㜳 or as 褢; the sūtra writing it as 褱 means to conceal in the bosom, which is not the meaning here; the second character is pronounced 向 + 噉 fanqie; Master Kong's Commentary on the Analects says: '憾 means hatred/resentment'; it takes xin [心] as its classifier and 感 as its phonetic).
