尋閱（上習[泳-永+(瑤-王)]反賈逵注國語云尋猶用也方言云長也郭注云尋謂之長法度之廣也說文云尋繹理也從工口工口亂也叉寸分理之會意字也下緣雪反鄭注周禮云閱猶簡也杜注左傳云數也古今正字從門兊聲）。

尋閱 (The first character has the fanqie xi2-[ying3]. Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu says: '尋 is like yòng, to employ.' The Fangyan says: 'It means long.' Guo's commentary says: '尋 designates length and the breadth of standard measures.' The Shuowen jiezi says: '尋 means to untangle threads and arrange them in order; it is derived from gōng [工] and kǒu [口], which signify disorder, while cùn [寸] divides and organizes them: an ideogrammic compound.' The second character has the fanqie yuan2-xue3. Zheng's commentary on the Rites of Zhou says: '閱 is like jiǎn, to inspect or select.' Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: 'It means to count.' The Gujin zhengzi states: 'It is derived from mén [門] with duì [兊] as phonetic').
