罹咎（上里知反爾雅罹毒也考聲罹遭也被也字書心憂也從𠔿惟聲縱書罪字亦通下求有反孔注尚書咎惡也韻詮云咎過也說文災也從人從各人各人各者違也會意字也或更從人作倃說文毀也亦通）。

罹咎 (incurring calamity): The first character is the fanqie 里 (l-) + 知 (zhī) [lí]. The Erya says: "罹 means affliction." The Kaosheng says: "罹 means to encounter, to suffer." Character dictionaries say: "Anxiety in the mind. It takes 𠔿 as semantic component and 惟 as phonetic component." To write it vertically as 罪 is also common. The second character is the fanqie 求 (q-) + 有 (yǒu) [jiù]. Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says: "咎 means evil." The Yunquan says: "咎 means fault." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Calamity. It takes 人 and 各 as semantic components; people each having their own views means discord; it is an ideogrammic compound." It is also written with 人 as 倃; the Shuowen jiezi says: "倃 means ruined"; this is also acceptable.
