濯澣（上音濁毛詩傳曰濯滌也毛詩云服浣濯之衣是也廣雅濯洗也說文濯浣也從水翟音宅下桓管反毛詩云薄澣我衣箋云謂澣濯之也劉兆注公羊云濯生練曰涑涑音桑候反舊垢曰澣說文濯衣垢也從水幹聲經中作浣俗字滌音庭歷反）。

濯澣 (to wash and rinse): The first character is pronounced zhuó. The Mao Commentary on the Shijing says: "濯 means to cleanse." The Shijing says: "Wearing washed clothes"; this is it. The Guangya says: "濯 means to wash." The Shuowen jiezi says: "濯 means to rinse. It takes 水 as semantic component and 翟 (pronounced zhái) as phonetic component." The second character is the fanqie 桓 (h-) + 管 (guǎn) [huàn]. The Shijing says: "I will wash my clothes." The commentary (Jian) says: "It means to wash and rinse them." Liu Zhao's commentary on the Gongyang zhuan says: "Washing raw raw-silk cloth is called 涑 (pronounced with the fanqie 桑 sāng + 候 hòu [sòu]); washing out old dirt is called 澣." The Shuowen jiezi says: "To wash dirt from clothes. It takes 水 as semantic component and 幹 as phonetic component." In the sūtras it is written as 浣, which is a popular variant. 滌 (to cleanse) is pronounced with the fanqie 庭 (t-) + 歷 (lì) [dí].
