囹圄（上歷丁反考聲云囹圄獄也鄭注禮記月令囹圄所以禁守繫者也說文從口令聲下魚舉反考聲圄方獄也杜注左傳云圄囚也晉灼注漢書云圄禁制人也說文守也從口吾聲亦作圉）。

囹圄 (The first syllable has the fanqie 歷丁 [líng]. The Kaosheng says: "囹圄 [língyǔ] means prison." Zheng [Xuan's] commentary to the 'Yueling' of the Liji says: "囹圄 is that whereby those confined and bound are restricted and guarded." The Shuowen jiezi says it takes 囗 [wéi] as semantic and 令 [lìng] as phonetic. The second syllable has the fanqie 魚舉 [yǔ]. The Kaosheng says: "圄 [yǔ] means a square prison." Du [Yu's] commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: "圄 means to imprison." Jin Zhuo's commentary to the Hanshu says: "圄 means to restrain persons." The Shuowen jiezi says: "To guard." It takes 囗 [wéi] as semantic and 吾 [wú] as phonetic. It is also written 圉.)
