持笏（下昏沒反考聲云笏簡也禮記云凡有指畫於君前用笏受命於君前書於笏古今正字從竹勿聲也）。

Holding a tablet (持笏; the second character is pronounced with the fanqie 昏沒. The Kaosheng says: "A 笏 is a tablet." The Liji says: "Whenever pointing or delineating before the ruler, one uses a tablet; when receiving orders before the ruler, one writes them on the tablet." The Gujin zhengzi gives it with the radical 竹 and 勿 as phonetic).
