左衽（壬枕反考聲云袵謂衣前襟也鄭注禮記云袵衣裳幅所反交奄者說文袵衣䘳也從衣任聲夷人左袵也）。

左衽 (ren + zhen [rèn]. The Kaosheng says: "袵 refers to the front lapel of a garment." Zheng's commentary to the Record of Rites says: "袵 is the part of the fabric of robes and skirts that turns back and overlaps." The Shuowen says: "袵 is a garment's collar/lapel; it derives from 衣 [garment] with 任 as phonetic." Barbarians fold their lapels to the left (zuǒrèn).)
