骸柩 (the first character is pronounced hái). Liu Zhao's commentary on the Gongyang zhuan says: 'Hái means bones.' Gu Yewang says: 'The bones of the body as a whole are called hái.' The Shuowen [indicates that] it takes 骨 as radical and 亥 as phonetic. The second character has the fanqie: 求 + 救 [jiù]. Character dictionaries properly write it with 匚 as 匛; when there is a corpse in a coffin, it is called a jiù. The Liji says: '[A corpse] in a coffin is called a jiù.' The Shuowen [indicates that] it takes 匚 as radical and 久 as phonetic; it is sometimes written with 木, and the great seal script writes it as 匶.
