胭頷（上䴏肩反蒼頡篇從口作咽與胭字同博雅咽嗌也聲類云喉也考聲亦從肉作胭云喉也古文從口作[嘌-示+土]又作臙音並同說文亦嗌也從口因聲下含敢反方言云頷謂頤也說文從頁含聲嗌音戹頤音夷頁音纈也）。

胭頷 (throat and chin: the first character is a fanqie of 䴏 and 肩 [yān]; the Cang Jie pian writes it with 口 as 咽, being the same as the character 胭; the Boya states: '咽 means the throat.' The Shenglei states: 'The gullet.' The Kaosheng also writes it with 肉 as 胭, stating it means gullet; the ancient script writes it with 口 as [嘌-示+土], and also as 臙, all with the same sound; the Shuowen also defines it as the throat, analyzing it as semantic 口 and phonetic 因. The second character is a fanqie of 含 and 敢 [hǎn]; the Fangyan states: '頷 refers to the chin.' The Shuowen analyzes it as semantic 頁 and phonetic 含; throat (嗌) is pronounced è; chin (頤) is pronounced yí; page/head (頁) is pronounced xié).
