背胛（上正背字從北從肉下音甲吳越春秋云貫胛達背也釋名云胛之言闔也闔音合謂與胸脇相會故云闔也古今正字義同從甲從肉聲也）。

背胛 (The first character is the correct character 背 [bèi], composed of 北 and 肉 [flesh]. The second character has the sound 甲 [jiǎ]. The Wu-Yue chunqiu says: "Piercing the shoulder blade (胛) and penetrating through to the back." The Shiming says: "The word 'jiǎ' [shoulder blade] means to close (闔)." The phonetic reading of 闔 is 合 [hé]. It means that it meets together with the chest and ribs, hence it is called 'hé' [closing]. The Gujin zhengzi agrees in meaning: "It takes 甲 and 肉 as phonetic components").
