Long promulgated (久頒: fanqie ru-man [ban]; it is also written as 班. The Zuo zhuan says: '頒 means to distribute; to array.' The Shuowen says: 'It is derived from fen [分]. The character fen is composed of "eight" [八] and "knife" [刀].').
