Disemboweling and slicing (刳剔) (the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 苦姑 [kǔ + gū -> kū]; the Cang Jie pian says: '刳 means to butcher'; the Fangyan says: '刳 means to cut open'; the Shuowen says: 'It means to cleave open; it is composed of the knife radical (刀) with 夸 phonetic'; Gu Yewang says: '刳 means to hollow out the belly'; 夸 is pronounced kuā; the second character is pronounced with the fanqie 汀歷 [tīng + lì -> tī]; the Guangya says: '剔 means to butcher'; dictionaries properly write it as 𠜓, identical in meaning to 剔; the Gujin zhengzi says: 'To dress and carve; it is composed of the knife radical (刀) with 易 phonetic').
