為蜃（辰忍反鄭注周禮云蜃大蛤也大戴禮夏小正雉入淮為蜃說文從虫辰聲集云䴏入海為蜃誤也）。

Turn into a giant clam 為蜃 (fanqie: 辰忍 [shèn]). Zheng's commentary to the Zhouli says: 'A shen (蜃) is a giant clam.' Da Dai Liji's Xia xiaozheng says: 'Pheasants enter the Huai River and become giant clams.' The Shuowen jiezi says it takes 虫 ('insect/creature') as semantic and 辰 as phonetic. The edition under collation says swallows enter the sea and become giant clams, which is mistaken.
