焰明 (the Zigu gives the ancient form as 燄; now written 爓; the Sancang has 焰; all yú zhān fan; the Shuowen says: 'The movement of fire blazing forth with bright flames.' The sūtra text writes 㷿, xǔ fán fan; the Picang says: '㷿 has a pungent taste'; the Ziyuan says: '㷿 means [a kind of plant].' 㷿 does not have this meaning; the character [for that plant] is pronounced lì gē fan).
