Dull faculties (根鈍: the second character has the fanqie tu-dun; the Cangjiepian states that 鈍 means stubborn and dense; Ru Chun's commentary on the Shiji states that stubborn and dense is like lacking integrity and being foolish; the Huainanzi states that it means understanding and perception are dark and turbid; the Shenglei states that it means blunt and sharp-less; the Shuowen states that it is formed from 'metal' [金] with 屯 as phonetic; 屯 has the fanqie tu-dun).
