蛇蠍 (The upper character has the fanqie [社+遮]; the orthodox form is 虵. The lower character has the fanqie [軒+謁]. The Guangya says: "杜伯, 𧔣𱿴, 蟽蜇, 蚳, 蠆 are all scorpions [蠍]." From '杜伯' onwards are all alternative names for scorpions. The Fangyan says: "From east and west of the passes, between Qin and Jin, it is called 𧔣𱿴, or called 蠍." Note: 蠍 is the standard term across the four quarters. This insect's shape resembles a small crab; its tail curls upward over its back, and the tip of its tail has a venomous sting that injures people. Zheng's commentary to the Mao Shi says: "It is a stinging insect. The tip of its tail is stiff, resembling the tip of a woman's hairpin curling upward; its venom stings people, which is called 蠍蜇." 𧔣 has the fanqie [橽+𱿴]; 𱿴 has the fanqie [蘭+葛]. 䖯 is an ancient form of the character 毒. 蜇 has the fanqie [知+列]. 蚳 is pronounced 蚳. 蠆 has the fanqie [勅+介]. 蟹 has the fanqie [諧+芥]. 螫 is pronounced 釋.)
