Luò-yè-yī 絡掖衣 (The first character has the fanqie 郎各; the second character has the sound 亦, properly written with 肉 ('flesh') as 腋; it also has the pronunciation 征石. The luòyèyī is called saṃkakṣikā in the Vinaya of the Sarvāstivāda school, translated into the Tang language as an underarm-covering robe [掩腋衣]. This robe was originally prescribed out of concern for soiling the three robes: one first covers the right armpit with this robe, crosses it over the left shoulder, and only then dons the three robes. In the Four-Part Vinaya it is mistakenly used to mean a shoulder-covering [robe]; this error has been in practice for a long time and cannot be altered.)
