In the stony shallows (磧中: the upper character has the fanqie qīng + lì [qì]; Guangya says: 'A qì is a shallow rapid; water is shallow and stones are exposed'. Examining it: a qì is a frontier land of sand and gravel, devoid of water, lacking vegetation, an uninhabited realm; Shuowen jiezi says: 'A water islet with stones; derived from 石 "stone" with 責 phonetic').
