羞赧 (The first character has the fanqie [秀由] xiū. Kong [Anguo's] commentary on the Shangshu says: "Xiū means humiliation." The Zuo zhuan says: "Do not cause great disgrace [巨羞]," on which Du [Yu's] commentary says: "Xiū means shame." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Xiū means to present in offering; it has the sheep classifier [羊], as sheep are what is offered; it has 丑, which is also phonetic." The second character has the fanqie [儜簡] nǎn. The Fangyan says: "Nǎn means ashamed." The Kaosheng says: "Shamefaced blushing." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Blushing with shame; it has the red classifier [赤] and 㞋 as phonetic." In the Vinaya text it is written with the skin classifier as 𧹞, which is a popular variant. The character 㞋 has the fanqie [尼展] niǎn.)
