Sinews and hide (筋皮; the first character is pronounced [jīn]; the Zhouli says: "The master physician nourishes the sinews"; the Shuowen jiezi says: "The strength of muscle and flesh; it takes 'bamboo' (竹) because among things it possesses many fibers, and takes 'strength' (力) depicting the sinew"; in the sūtra text it is written with 'grass' (草) as 荕, which is incorrect).
