Reed clothing (茅衣: [the first character is] pronounced 夘 + 包 fanqie; the Book of Changes mentions 'using white reeds as mats'; Shuowen says: 茅 is jian grass; it takes cao [草] as its classifier and 矛 as its phonetic; 菅 is pronounced 古 + 頑 fanqie; 矛 is pronounced 莫 + 候 fanqie; the seed of barnyard grass is pronounced 敗; Du's commentary on the Zuo Tradition says: grass resembling [(孛-子+未)*卑]; Ru Chun says: fine rice is bai; writing it as 粺 is also acceptable).
