Treading and climbing (𨀗躡: the first character is kuā + huà fanqie [kuà], already explained in Fascicle 4. Du's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: "𨀗 means to pass over." The Shuowen says: "It means to cross over; it has the foot radical, with 𡗢 as phonetic." The second character is nián + zhé fanqie [niè]. 黏 is pronounced ní + zhān fanqie [nián]. The Fangyan says: "躡 means to ascend." The Guangya says: "It means to tread on." The Shuowen says: "It means to step; it has the foot radical, with 聶 as phonetic.").
