Tan Ravine (檀谿: the first character is táng + hán fanqie [tán]. The Jun guo zhi says: "A stream name in Xiangzhou." Writing the second character with the water radical as 溪 is a vulgar form. The correct form is 谿. The Shuowen says: "A gully without a source is called a 谿; it has the valley radical 谷, with 奚 as phonetic." The transmitted text mistakenly writes the first character 檀 with the 壹 radical as 𪳮, which is incorrect; and the second is written with water as 溪, which is a vulgar character).
