Corded arrows (矰繳: the first character has the fanqie 則登 [zēng]. Zheng's commentary on the Rites of Zhou says: "An arrow tied to a cord is called a 矰." The Kaogong ji says: "Corded arrows (矰) are what bows use." It also says: "The name of the fletching of an arrow." The Shuowen says: "Formed from 矢 (arrow) with 曾 as the phonetic component." In the sūtra text it is written as 繒, with the fanqie 疾陵 [zēng], which is an error. The second character has the fanqie 章苦 [zhuó]. The Guangya says: "繳 means to entangle." The Shuowen says: "Raw silk string." It is formed from 糸 (silk) with 敫 as the phonetic component. 敫 has the fanqie 羊灼 [yào]; writing it as 𦅾 is also acceptable).
