谿㵎 [mountain streams and ravines] (The upper character is pronounced with the fanqie 啟奚 [qī]. The Erya says: “Water that flows into a river.” The Shuowen jiezi says: “A river ditch that has nowhere to pass through.” It is formed from 谷 [valley] with 奚 as the phonetic element; it is also written as the character 溪. The lower character is pronounced with the fanqie 閒晏 [jiàn]. The commentary to the Mao classic of poetry says: “Mountains hemming in water are called a 㵎 [ravine].” The Shuowen jiezi says: “It is formed from 水 [water] with 間 as the phonetic element.” It is also written as 𡼏 and as 𧯑, which are all used interchangeably).
