陷穽（上咸鑒反考聲云陷穴也王逸注楚辭云陷沒也從阜臽聲亦單作臽字下情性反鄭注周禮云穿地為深坑捕禽獸也說文從穴井聲或作阱亦作𱶷汬皆古字也）。

陷穽 [pitfall trap] (The upper character is pronounced with the fanqie 咸鑒 [xiàn]. The Kaosheng says: “陷 means a hole/pit.” Wang Yi's commentary to the Songs of Chu says: “陷 means to sink down.” Formed from 阜 with 臽 as the phonetic element; it is also written simply as the character 臽. The lower character is pronounced with the fanqie 情性 [jǐng]. Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary to the Rites of Zhou says: “Digging the earth into a deep pit to catch birds and beasts.” The Shuowen jiezi says: “Formed from 穴 [hole] with 井 as the phonetic element.” It is also written as 阱, 𱶷, or 汬, which are all ancient characters).
