游泳（上酉幽反顧野王云游浮於水上而進也鄭注周禮云備沉溺也說文從水斿聲下榮命反毛詩云潛行水中為泳郭注爾雅云水底行說文云從水詠省聲也）。

游泳 [swimming and diving] (The upper character is pronounced with the fanqie 酉幽 [yóu]. Gu Yewang says: “游 means floating upon the water and advancing.” Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary to the Rites of Zhou says: “To guard against sinking and drowning.” The Shuowen jiezi says: “Formed from 水 [water] with 斿 as the phonetic element.” The lower character is pronounced with the fanqie 榮命 [yǒng]. The Mao classic of poetry says: “Moving submerged through the water is 泳.” Guo [Pu]'s commentary to the Erya says: “Traveling beneath the water.” The Shuowen jiezi says: “Formed from 水 [water] with an abbreviated 詠 as the phonetic element”).
