𱀩穽（上咸鑒反考聲云𨺂穴也王逸注楚辭𨺂沒也說文隨也從阜留聲亦單作函音同下情性反鄭注周禮云穿地為深坑捕禽獸也說文從穴井聲亦作阱或作𱶷汬皆古字也）。

𱀩穽 (pitfalls and traps: the upper character has the fanqie xian + jian. The Kaosheng says: "Xian (𨺂) is a cave." Wang Yi's commentary on the Chuci says: "Xian means submerged." The Shuowen says: "To sink down." It is formed with the "mound" semantic classifier and the liu (留) phonetic component; it is also written simply as 函 with the same sound. The lower character has the fanqie qing + xing. Zheng's commentary on the Zhouli says: "Digging a deep pit in the ground to trap birds and beasts." The Shuowen says it is formed with the "cave" semantic classifier and the jing (井) phonetic component. It is also written as 阱, or as 𱶷 or 汬, all of which are ancient characters).
