隘陿（上鵶介反廣雅迫也王逸注楚辭云隘險阸也或作阸下咸甲反顧野王云迫阸也說文從阜從匧聲也經文從犬作狹謂狹習也非此用）。

Narrow and constricted (隘陿: the upper character has the fanqie 鵶介. The Guangya says: "Pressed/confined." Wang Yi's commentary to the Chuci says: "Ài (隘) means perilous and narrow (阸)." It is also written as 阸. The lower character has the fanqie 咸甲. Gu Yewang says: "Pressed and confined." The Shuowen says: "It is formed with [the semantic element] fù (阜) and [the phonetic element] jiá (匧)." In the sūtra text it is written with 'dog' (犬) as 狹, which denotes familiarity and presumption, not its proper usage here).
