李聃 (The second character has the fanqie 他甘 [tā + gān]; the surname and personal name of Laozi. The Biographies of Han Fei in the Shiji states: 'His surname was Li, personal name Dan; he was a man of Ku County. He was born under a plum tree in the first year, an yimao year, of King Ding of Zhou. In the second year of King Jian, he served as the Keeper of the Archives, and in the thirteenth year as the Scribe under the Pillar.
