撫膺（上孚武反爾雅云撫掩之也郭注云撫掩猶撫拍也下於凌反說文云賀也案撫膺合作拊字爾雅云辟拊心也郭璞注云謂椎胷也椎音直追反）。

Beating the breast (撫膺: the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 孚武 [f- + -uo = fǔ]. The Erya says: 'Fu (撫) means to cover it.' Guo [Pu's] commentary says: 'Covering is like patting.' The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 於凌 [y- + -əŋ = yīng]. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Chest.' In our analysis, fuying (撫膺) should properly be written with the character 拊. The Erya says: 'Pi (辟) means beating the heart.' Guo Pu's commentary says: 'It means striking the chest.' 椎 is pronounced with the fanqie 直追 [d- + -wi = chuí]).
