Deceitful talk (詭說: the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 歸偉 [k- + -wi = guǐ]. The Mao Commentary on the Classic of Poetry says: 'Do not indulge the deceitful and compliant.' Zheng's Jian commentary says: 'Do not listen to and give free rein to deceitful and compliant people committing evil.' The Huainanzi says: 'Su Qin accomplished one instance of trust by means of a hundred deceptions.' Xu Shuzhong's commentary says: 'Gui (詭) means deceitful and negligent.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'To reprimand.' It takes the speech radical [言] with 危 as phonetic).
