襃貶（上保毛反顧野王云襃謂揚其美也鄭注禮記云進也說文云衣博褥裾從衣保聲下兵奄反鄭注周禮云減也考聲云黠也說文云貶損也從貝乏聲也）。

Praise and censure (襃貶: the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 保毛 [p- + -ɑu = bāo]. Gu Yewang says: 'Bao (襃) means to extol excellence.' Zheng's commentary on the Liji says: 'To advance.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'A robe with broad, padded hems'; it takes the clothing radical [衣] with 保 as phonetic. The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 兵奄 [p- + -æm = biǎn]. Zheng's commentary on the Zhouli says: 'To diminish.' The Kaosheng says: 'Clever.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'To diminish and damage'; it takes the cowrie radical [貝] with 乏 as phonetic).
