庠序（上似羊反禮記云有虞氏養老於上庠庶老於下庠上庠太學下庠小學說文從广詳省聲下徐舉反玉篇云東序西序之學也爾雅云東西牆謂之序郭注云所以序別內外）。

Schools (庠序: the first character is [pronounced with the fanqie] si + yang; the Liji says: "The Youyu clan nourished the state elders in the Higher Xiang and the common elders in the Lower Xiang"; the Higher Xiang was the Great Learning and the Lower Xiang was the Minor Learning; the Shuowen says it is formed from roof [广] with the abbreviated form of xiang [詳] as phonetic; the second character is [pronounced with the fanqie] xu + ju; the Yupian says it means the schools of the Eastern Xu and Western Xu; the Erya says: "The eastern and western walls are called xu"; Guo's commentary says: "They serve to order and distinguish inside from outside").
