檢策（上錦儼反爾雅曰檢同也釋名云撿禁也說文云從木僉聲下楚革反或作筴賈注國語云策計也字書云策謀筭也說文從竹朿音此志反經文從宋作榮誤書字也宋音送）。

檢策 (The first character is pronounced 錦 + 儼 fanqie. The Erya says: 'Jian means identical.' The Shiming says: 'Jian means to restrict.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Formed with 木 as semantic and 僉 as phonetic.' The second character is pronounced 楚 + 革 fanqie, sometimes written 筴. Jia's commentary on the Guoyu says: 'Ce means to plan.' Character dictionaries say: 'Ce means strategic calculation.' The Shuowen says it takes 竹 as semantic and 朿 as phonetic; 朿 is pronounced 此 + 志 fanqie. In the sūtra text, writing it with 宋 to make 榮 is a clerical error. 宋 is pronounced 送).
