荳蔲（上徒候反下呼候反切韻荳蔲藥名也本草云實如李實味辛而香可食令人益氣止瀉二字並從草豆𡨥皆聲經文單作豆乃穀豆之字非藥名也）。

Cardamom (荳蔲: the first [character] is fanqie 徒候. The second [character] is fanqie 呼候. The Qieyun says: 'Cardamom is the name of a medicinal herb.' The Bencao says: 'The fruit is like a plum fruit, pungent in taste and fragrant, edible; it causes one to increase qi and stops diarrhea.' Both characters are derived from the grass radical 草, with 豆 and 𡨥 as their respective phonetics. In the sūtra text it is written singly as 豆, which is the character for cereal beans, not the name of a medicine).
