鞭撻（上卑連反字書捶馬杖又策也下他達反尚書云撻以記之也禮云成王有過周公則撻伯禽也說文云從手達聲）。

鞭撻 (The first character has the fanqie bei + lian; the dictionaries say: “A cane for whipping horses; also to whip.” The second character has the fanqie ta + da; the Shangshu says: “Whip (ta) to enforce memory.” The Liji says: “When King Cheng erred, the Duke of Zhou whipped Boqin.” The Shuowen says: “Composed of the hand radical (手) with da as phonetic.”)
