誹謗（上非味反下補浪反大戴禮云立誹謗之木設諫諍之皷也應劭注漢書云橋樑邊板所以書政治之𠍴失也杜注左傳云謗詛也以言呪詛人也說文二字互相訓從言皆形聲字）。

Slandering and defaming (誹謗: the upper character has the fanqie *fēi* + *wèi* [fěi]; the lower character has the fanqie *bǔ* + *làng* [bàng]. The *Da Dai Liji* says, "Erecting posts for airing grievances and setting up drums for remonstration." Ying Shao's commentary on the *Hanshu* says, "Wooden tablets beside bridges used to write down the errors and mistakes of government administration." Du Yu's commentary on the *Zuo zhuan* says, "*Bàng* means to curse; to curse people with words." The *Shuowen* explains both characters mutually; they are categorized under "words" and are both phono-semantic characters).
